Fraud Crimes: Should they be equal to everyone?

This is completely unfair. We trust the law to punish people for their actions equally, whether they are rich, poor, white, black, men or women. The law is the law and it should not have exceptions for those who are richer than others. By giving a weak punishment to rich people they are encouraged to do the same crime with limited implications. Furthermore, if the man is very rich a fine of 75,000 will only be a few percent of what he is earning each year. In other words, he could make 2 million dollars in one year from fraud and only be fined 75,000 dollars. How much of an impact would that make on you? Now let’s talk about the unfairness of this punishment. A man of lesser financial status did the same crime but was punished for an entire year in jail. Although jail time is one of the best ways of punishing people, jail time should apply to all. If the poorer man goes to jail, the rich man should as well. Now obviously, a 75,000 dollar fine for a poor person might be just as bad as jail, but the punishment should be equal.
